Festival of Crafts
The Ludlow Castle Festival of Crafts is an annual event, that takes
place over the Whitsun weekend in Spring.
2002 was its eleventh successive year, and the event now draws
audiences around 11,000.
Centred on the castle's Outer Bailey area, the Craft Fair brings
together over 70 craft and artisan producers who sell their wares
from stands in a large marquee. Other areas of the castle grounds
are given over to demonstrations, practical, hands-on workshops
and other craft-related entertainments, some for adults, some for
children.
Traditional craft skills - including stonemasonry, plaster of paris
casting, brickmaking and wood turning were all on show. Treasures,
one of Shropshire's leading craft building companies showcased the
work of some of the their craftsmen and apprentices were on hand
to demonstrate their skills.
In this fun, family environment, the Schools Design and Technolgy
Showcase sits very comfortably. Participants enjoy the benefits
of having their work on show alongside the work of established craft
workers and artisans, and have the opportunity to talk with a range
of interested visitors as well as one another.
